In a country where every bite of food is rationed, every sack of beans and rice is precious, where eggs and milk are no longer available, Isabella and dozens of other Moms in Prayer moms set aside one cup of rice each month.
The story behind this sacrificial love comes from Camila, a missionary in this Latin American country. During a stay in California, Camila had been introduced to Moms in Prayer International and was immediately on board. Back in her country and armed with materials in Spanish, she has been unstoppable in praying and sharing Moms in Prayer. Her enthusiasm is contagious as she shares stories of answered prayer … and one amazing story awaited her the day she met Isabella.
Camila set out to introduce Moms in Prayer in one of the churches in her city. Imagine her surprise to discover that groups had already been flourishing there for six and a half years! In a city of half a million people, God miraculously led her to Isabella—and with joy they connected!
Isabella’s prayer journey had begun when one visiting mom gave one other mom one of our ministry Booklets, which made its way into her hands … and heart. Isabella remembers the very day she started her first Moms in Prayer group: August 20, 2004. Since then, God has given her a tireless dedication, and, as a result, over 300 moms are interceding for their children and schools in 17 church groups and 67 home groups. Fifty-nine churches in nearby provinces also have groups. All this Holy Spirit power without ready access to computers, telephones or even reliable mail service!
Together, the women of this city planned an all-day Moms in Prayer event to reach more moms. But how could they invite ladies for a day without providing a meal? And how could they feed over 200 women? Their love of God proved stronger than a shortage of food. Each Moms in Prayer mom saved one cup of rice per month. One cup of rice at a cost. One cup of rice so that bodies may be nourished as souls are fed. One cup of rice for their children and the schools in need of prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Isabella. Thank You for Camila. Thank You for exploding Moms in Prayer in their corner of the world without our even knowing about it. We didn’t need to know; You are in charge. But thank You for allowing us to learn of their selfless act. Dear Father, show us what we can do to grow prayer in our little corners of the world. What can we give that more might be “fed”? What is our “cup of rice”?
