Country Facts:
As a result of the Korean War, an armistice was signed in 1953, splitting the peninsula between North and South Korea with a heavilyy fortified wall. Today, South Korea has over 48 million people, most of whom live in urban areas. Because of this, there is a very high population density. Most of the terrain in South Korea is mountainous and also includes about 3,000 islands off of the western and southern coasts.
