History:
In the fall of 1984, Fern Nichols' two oldest children of four were entering junior high school in Abbotsford, British Colombia. Her heart was heavy and burdened with concern as she knew they would be facing their greatest test in resisting immoral values, vulgar language, peer pressure and philosophies that would undermine their faith. She cried out to the Lord asking Him to protect them, enable them to see clearly the difference between right and wrong, and help them make good decisions.
The burden to intercede for her boys was overwhelming. She asked God to give her another mom who felt the same burden, and who would be willing to pray with her concerning their children and their school. God heard the cry of her heart and led her to another mom who shared her burden. Others were invited to come and they began meeting the following week for prayer.
This was the beginning of Moms In Touch International -- moms in touch with God, their children, their schools and one another through prayer. As moms began sharing what God had been doing in their lives, and in the lives of their children through prayer, other groups began to spring up all over British Columbia where they were living at the time.
On November 14, 2009, MITI celebrated 25 years with Arise! Cry Out! That spurred many Canadian moms on to join a group. Here's one testimony from that day:
“What a morning we had. I wish it could have gone on for another four hours. We had 10 ladies come out, and I could see the blessing the morning was for each of them, myself most of all (though I am sure we all felt that way). We went through many Kleenexes, and no one had difficulty filling the time with heartfelt prayers. It was a much needed time for our ladies. We are trusting this seed will grow a bigger plant, infiltrating the area with roots of truth and faith and intercession for our whole community.”
