Little did I know that traveling to Sri Lanka for my friend's 50th birthday would also give me an opportunity to share Moms in Prayer! Sri Lanka, my friend Manel's homeland, is an island country in South Asia just below India. Manel now lives in Texas but wanted to celebrate her birthday with her family in Sri Lanka. While visiting her, I was able to join in the celebration of her birthday and also pray with her, Linda and Susan (all praying moms from Texas). We brought Ministry materials to a German missionary there whom I had met through a mutual friend from my hometown. God knows how to make connections!
Through the kindness of this missionary, Booklets were given to the women's Bible study group at his church. Our team of moms prayed that God would give these women a vision for praying for the children and schools in Sri Lanka. He told us that the church provides sermons in three languages: Sinhalese, Tamil and English. It was encouraging to see them reaching out so that everyone is welcomed to hear the Gospel in their language. Likewise, it is our prayer that as God establishes Moms in Prayer here, that the Sri Lankan women would have Booklets translated in these languages. We already have English and also a Tamil translation, and we hope for a Sinhalese translation in the future.
I was also able to speak with several moms individually about Moms in Prayer. One mom is a teacher and was touched by the idea of women gathering to pray for schools. She told me that in Sri Lanka, each family wants the best education for their children so the parents will typically send them to private schools. At the schools in the area I visited, I noticed the girls wearing white dresses and the boys white trousers. Different colored bows signify the particular school they attend.
On the birthday night of my friend Manel, we celebrated with about 20 children, singing worship songs to them and dancing. The children responded by singing Sinhalese songs to us. The beauty of the moment made our team aware of God's presence and anointing.
God gave me many opportunities during my time in Sri Lanka to share my testimony and Moms in Prayer in creative ways—even through ideas and pictures when there was a language barrier. Please pray for the Sri Lankan people, for salvation and for safety and provision and to recover from the flooding. May the Lord watch over them, show them His love and encourage the mothers to lift up their children and schools in prayer.
