God Gives Hope to Moms in Ecuador Prison
|
What does a thirtysomething mom of three from Southern California have in common with women in a correctional facility in Ecuador? When it come to Moms in Prayer, everything.
This summer, Cindy Kruger traveled to Ambato, Latacunga and Riobamba in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador. Cindy, along with Giovanna Trujillo (Moms in Prayer Ecuador leader) and translator Sara, were able to go into the women's prisons there and share Moms in Prayer International. They gave the Gospel message and shared the Four Steps of Prayer to guards and prisoners who were very grateful to have a new, more powerful approach
to prayer.
Moms everywhere love their kids and desire to pray for them, even the women prisoners Cindy met in the Latacunga jail in Ecuador. These women are separated from their precious children and their burdens are overwhelming, but a glimmer of hope was evident when they realized they could pray powerfully together in one accord. As Cindy and Giovanna shared with these women, for the first time they were able to experience the joy of hearing another mom pray for their children. Clementia, a guard at the facility, sat through the entire training session and, at the end, expressed her desire to start a weekly time of prayer for the women!
At the women's prison in Riobamba, Cindy was able to speak with eleven guards about the Gospel and Moms in Prayer International. Afterward, a guard named Marta came up. Marta has four children at home and had been diagnosed with cancer so she was very discouraged, but after asking for prayer and accepting Christ there was new-found hope in her eyes! She now knows that she can claim Biblical promises for
her children.
During the last part of the trip, Cindy and Giovanna led training for women at a local church in Ambato. Cindy noticed how much love Giovanna has for the women, children and schools in her country. After going over the Four Steps of Prayer, the women in Ambato poured out their hearts in prayer for their children. Many of their children were fighting battles with sexual temptation, drugs and alcohol. Once the women heard others praying for their children, you could see some of the worry melt away from their faces and they were encouraged by forming a bond with the other moms. Pray that these moms can find others to join them in praying for their schools.
Traveling thousands of miles away from home made it very clear to Cindy that moms everywhere are a lot more alike than they are different. We all need the Lord, encouragement, and prayer for our children. Consider going yourself to see first-hand how God is using moms just like you to affect the world in praying for their children
and schools. |
