It All Started with One Mom Praying in Barbados
by Debbie Buckmaster, Leader in Barbados
Fifteen years ago, Jean Mark started praying for her children and their school in Barbados. At the time, she was the only mom praying in the little chapel connected with St. Gabriel's School. For many weeks she prayed alone until one by one other mothers joined her and formed a Moms in Prayer group. This group continued after she and her children left the school, and in 2004 God called our team of ladies to form PRAMM (PRAying Moms Ministry) to accommodate Caribbean cultural differences, while still following the Moms in Prayer format and guidelines.
Today, we have three groups praying, one at St. Gabriel's Primary School, one at Queens College and one at St. Michael's School, but several more are forming. We are blessed to be allowed to pray in the schools. At one point, we didn't follow the Four Steps of Prayer due to time constraints which only allowed us 30 minutes to pray, but we have found that the Four Steps and the leader's guidelines are the most effective way to cover our kids and schools in prayer. PRAMM is ensuring that all new groups are trained well in the Four Steps of Prayer and have the tools they need to understand them well. We are also asking new group members to come together and view the Arise! Cry Out! DVD for further training. The tools offered by Moms in Prayer International are invaluable and we are so grateful for the Field Ministry's support and prayers for our teams.
Last month, we held the Barbados Moms In Christ Prayer Rally where 60 women joined in prayer. We planned this rally to coincide with the beginning of the school year and we are hoping to continue the event every year around this time. We have already followed up with 20 potential new leaders! God is moving us to the next step and has provided an incredible blessing as one of the PRAMM ladies has offered us an extra space in her home to use as our "headquarters” where we can have meetings, prayer time and get-togethers. Better yet, it is centrally located in Barbados, making it convenient for all of us. We are excited and look forward to see what God has in store!
Lord, we thank You for how You have brought women to pray for their children and schools in Barbados! We ask that You help us, Lord, to share with moms at other schools and that groups will continue to form resulting from our Prayer Rally.
