I was introduced to Moms In Touch by my neighbor who simply took a moment to share about the ministry over our fence. I later joined her and a couple of other ladies at a very low key event where I met two wonderful women from the MITI New Zealand team. They spoke about going to Dallas, Texas, for the MITI 20th Anniversary, and I wanted to go along.
Not long after the conference, I asked to join our national team, which meant flying to team meetings once a month for over a year. God was equipping me, and at this point I felt Him call me to the MITI Country Coordinator position. Our MITI team then moved south to my home city and God opened more doors. Within a few weeks, I had a wonderful team around me. I am now into my fifth year as CC for New Zealand.
MITI New Zealand has been greatly affected by the culture of “mums” needing to work. Many of our mothers have been drawn back to the workplace and struggle to find time to pray because of new commitments. To help solve this problem, we are encouraging church-based Moms In Touch groups which gives them the option to attend even though they represent different schools. We are praying that mothers will continue to place the baton of prayer into new hands as God presents these options.
Our Arise! Cry Out! event was held in New Plymouth which is a coastal city on the west side of North Island. We also had another event in Christchurch on the South Island. It was amazing to think that ACO kicked off in New Zealand and swept around the world!
A small group of twenty five women attended our ACO event in New Plymouth, but although small, our hearts were focused on God and ready for Him to move. I created a map of Moms In Touch across the world so that each woman could visualize the bigger picture and better understand that we were a part of a worldwide network of praying moms. All were amazed and cried many tears as the realization of it hit home.
While viewing the DVD, I was moved once again to see the Country Coordinators from the ACO live event. God touched my heart as I remembered each of these wonderful women I spent time with. Later in the program, many women at our event were inspired when Fern's family was brought up on stage with her and we witnessed the generations of blessing. As the day went on, we experienced mothers connecting with God and each other in prayer. New Zealand moms were challenged once again to commit to prayer for their children and schools with the exhortation to never give up!
Several women thanked me afterwards for sharing the scope of what God was doing worldwide through Moms In Touch and for giving them the opportunity to be a part of Arise! Cry Out! One of the mothers told me with great excitement, that she had been waiting for this day for ages! With tears in her eyes, another mum shared that she had thought of giving up MITI next year, but God challenged her through this day of crying out in prayer. She now wants to continue and will likely move into my group since her daughters will be attending the same high school as mine in New Plymouth.
On that Saturday evening of November 14, I just had to sit and bask in the wonder of the morning. I realized that we all had such an incredible time that I forgot to ask my husband to take pictures! He actually attended our event to run the projector for us, and I was very thankful for his support. I also reflected on the MITI New Zealand team and how God has blessed me with such beautiful women to have alongside me.
To continue the momentum of ACO, our team had the idea of listening to Pastor Miles McPherson's message about corporate prayer at a leader training day at church. My last thought of the day was that God was going to totally bless the socks off of each one of these mothers as they continued in the wave of prayer around the world.
