On November 14, 2009, nine sites in Uganda participated in the Moms In Touch Arise! Cry Out! event. One of these events was lead by Bishop Henry Nsubuga in Kampala. God has given Bishop Nsubuga a wonderful heart for the children of Uganda. Several years ago he was shot in both legs by the army of former Ugandan president Idi Amin. He also witnessed the killing of children and parents. Many other children were orphaned with nowhere to go. In 2000 he went to a refugee camp in Northern Uganda and visited the forgotten children abducted by the rebels. He started caring for six of these children and today his organization, Oasis of Life, now cares for over 900 orphans in Uganda and Congo. They are also building schools for these kids. Bishop Nsubuga desires the orphans to be under God's covering of love and protection and, in preparation for Arise! Cry Out!, he gathered the children together in Kampala and prayed for them.
Many attended the main Arise! Cry Out! event at Living Word Temple Ministries. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. they worshipped and prayed to God for these precious orphans. Because it was a long day, they provided lunch as well. Because he is associated with 50 other churches, Bishop Nsubuga also asked these congregations to meet and pray for the children. During the event at Living Word Temple Ministries, three mothers spoke and prayed for the children of Uganda and of the world. Bishop Nsubuga shared about the strength that God has given to mothers with the great responsibility of bearing children and raising them. He said that if mothers will cry out for their children and the children of the world, God will honor their petitions.
During one of the sessions, young adults were invited to pray. Two of them, both in their 20s, gave their lives to Christ. Another young man witnessed God deliver him from an addiction. There was also a young woman in attendance who admitted she had planned to kill herself and even came to the prayer meeting with poison to carry this out. Following the prayer time, she changed her mind, accepted Christ and is now born again. Bishop Nsubuga thanked God and Moms In Touch International for the vision of worldwide prayer and asked that we all continue to pray and see the good Lord bless the cries of mothers in the world.
Another Arise! Cry Out! (ACO) event was held in Magamaga, Uganda, by Pastor Paul Mabonga. Seventy people gathered at Magamaga Healing Centre Church to cry out to God for their children and schools. The time was blessed as mothers prayed and worshipped God together. Following the event, dinner was served. Pastor Mabonga gave all glory and honor to God for such an incredible experience and for providing funds to pay for the P.A. system, meals for the attendees and the other supplies.
Winnie Kibowe, MITI leader in Lugazi, Uganda, expected 100 women for their Arise! Cry Out! event, but the Lord exceeded her expectations and brought 200 women to pray on November 14. God continues to encourage more mothers to pray throughout Uganda. In early December, only three weeks after Arise! Cry Out!, I held a women's conference in the Southwest area of the country where 500 women were introduced to Moms In Touch.
As I reflect on the events throughout Uganda, they are summed up in a response from Cindy Plantenga (ACO International Host) after receiving praises from the Uganda ACO sites: "God, our God, revealed Himself all over the world this day!"
