But then her line of questioning changed. “What did it mean … the essay?”

“It shows that no matter what we do, God forgives our sins with His blood.”

I was stunned to see her eyes fill with tears. “What if you do something really bad?”

“No sin is too big for God’s forgiveness. He forgave the apostle Paul who was a murderer, and used him for
the kingdom of God.”

“I want Jesus. How can I do it?”

I began explaining the gospel, “You admit you’re a sinner, and believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins; that He’s the only way you can get to heaven.”

A few tears escaped and her reply was distant. “He did die for me.”

“And confess to God, that you believe, that you are a sinner, and that you want Him in your life.”

She didn’t just bow her head, she got down on her knees, and asked, “What do I say?”

I wasn’t sure what to say. So I just repeated the prayer I had heard so many times from my pastor, and she repeated after me.

She finished the prayer and smiled a weak, tired smile, “Thank you.”

I know I wasn’t the one who brought her to Christ. My pastor has said that someone plants the seed, someone waters, and someone reaps. It’s very unlikely one person does all three. I guess I got to “reap”!

Doug Clark is the promotion coordinator for See You at the Pole, and a former board member for Moms In Touch International. He lives in San Diego with his wife, Debbie; they have two children (high school and college age) who have participated in SYATP since they were in elementary school.

When a mom prays, God prepares the soil for encounters like this. Moms In Touch groups can also support the students by praying across the street, or by helping your children plan how to lead the prayer time at their elementary or secondary schools.

See You at the Pole will be September 27, 2006. Go to www.syatp.com for details and resources to help with SYATP in your community, or call 817-HIS PLAN for more information.
