Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I find women who want to join my group?
Register your group by going online at www.MomsInTouch.org or by sending in the registration form. Update MITI Headquarters of any change in address or group leader information. This will help moms find your group via MITI’s online group locator.
Pray that God brings you another mom from your child’s school who will be willing to meet with you each week for prayer.
Personally inviting other moms to pray with you is the best way to grow your group. Make a list of prospective moms from your school and ask them to join your prayer time.
For more ideas on growing your group, see page 5.17 in the MITI Leader’s Guide.
2. Is there Moms In Touch after high school?
Because life choices are made during the young adult years, MITI offers college and career groups.
3. What types of MITI groups are available?
Moms In Touch International offers two different types of groups: school-specific groups and multiple-school groups, praying for children from newborns to adults. School-specific groups are for moms from one school who gather to pray for the children and schools. Multiple-school groups are for moms who pray for children from different schools or colleges. Multiple-school groups include church-based, college and career, grandmothers, military and homeschool (each mom prays for herself as the teacher). Some groups, such as military groups or career groups, adopt a neighborhood school to cover in prayer.
4. How do I ensure that my MITI group continues on after I leave?
Once a group is started, it is important to maintain the group for each subsequent school year. As a leader, you should seek to replace yourself if you find you will not be able to continue. It is good to have a co-leader to lead the group from time to time. This gives you the opportunity to train another person so that the group is not entirely dependent upon you.
Before your children change schools or graduate, pray for and train a replacement, challenging the group members to not allow the group to disband.
5. How can I pray effectively for my children?
A Moms In Touch group prays for their children and matters that pertain to their school. Therefore, topics other than these must be prayed about before or after the MITI hour.
Moms with more than one child at the same school are encouraged to focus on one child each week. This allows for more concentrated and specific prayer for that child during the given time for intercession. Moms may alternate children weekly or focus on one child for several weeks or months.
If a mom has a specific prayer request for the school, she is to give it to the leader before the meeting. This will avoid unnecessary discussion during prayer time as well as give the leader opportunity to consider if it is appropriate for group time.
6. How visible can a group be on campus?
MITI groups are not to meet on public school campuses nor impose upon the public school by asking for prayer requests and/or promotion of the ministry. (See MITI Policies 5 and 6).
A mom who knows a teacher personally and is confident that the teacher is a Christian may ask for prayer requests privately. The name of a student should never be given by a teacher who may share a prayer request.
7. As a MITI mom, how do I handle personal school related issues?
Should a Moms In Touch member find it necessary to go to a teacher or principal concerning a child or a school-related matter, she is to go with a gracious spirit as a concerned parent without identifying herself as being part of Moms In Touch.
8. How can our Moms In Touch group stay connected with the overall ministry?
Encourage each member of the group to sign up with MITI by mail or online at www.MomsInTouch.org to receive the MITI newsletter and monthly e-news. These are powerful tools to keep group members in touch with the worldwide ministry of MITI as well as keep them informed of upcoming events.
