Types of Groups
Fern Nichols started Moms In Touch in 1984 out of a desperate desire to pray with at least one other mom for the needs of her children and their school. The ministry soon flourished as other moms caught the vision of covering each school in prayer. Over the years, we have expanded our groups to include moms and grandmothers who pray for children from different schools, but come together regularly to pray through the Four Steps of Prayer. These "Multiple-School" Groups include Career, Children with Special Needs, Church-based, College, Grandmothers, Homeschool, Military, Preschool and Prodigal groups.
The mission of Moms In Touch International, an interdenominational, multicultural prayer ministry, is to impact children and schools worldwide for Christ by gathering mothers to pray regularly (weekly is optimal). To accomplish this mission, two types of groups have been formed. The School-Specific Group focuses on praying for children attending the same campus. The Multiple-School Group accommodates women praying for children and their schools, even though the children might not attend the same campus.
The main resource is the MITI booklet. In addition to English, the booklet is available in several foreign languages (www.momsintouch.org/AboutUs/FactSheet). For additional resources, see the Leaders Corner on the website.
School-Specific Groups (K-12 Public, Charter, Private, Christian Schools)
School-Specific Groups typically meet in a home. Some may choose to meet at another public place such as a church or park, etc. However, no groups may meet on a school campus with the exception of those who have permission to meet on a Christian school campus. A faculty/teacher group is similar, but is not considered a MITI group. However, they are welcome to use the MITI resources and prayer format.
Words & Deeds is an optional activity for school-specific groups. It is a means of expressing appreciation to the staff of the school by providing treats and/or thank you notes for what they do.
Multiple-School Groups
Several schools may be prayed for in the Multiple-School Groups. Typically, two or more mothers/grandmothers in the same geographic area meet to pray for their children/grandchildren and the school the children attend or a school that is in the geographic area. Working moms who are not able to attend the group for their child’s school may also meet together at a time that is convenient (before/after work, lunch hour, etc.). Since several schools may be represented in this type of group, “Words and Deeds” may not be practical. The love, support and encouragement for them is in the form of your prayers. Multiple-School Groups include the following:
∙ Career
∙ Children with Special Needs
∙ Church-based
∙ College/university
∙ Grandmothers
∙ Homeschool
∙ Military
∙ Preschool
∙ Prison/Jail (for more information, please contact MITIprison@MomsInTouch.org)
