Seeds Planted Years Ago in Moldova
|
Where is Moldova? This is the typical reaction when the country is first mentioned. Actually, Moldova is a small country in Eastern Europe nestled in between Romania and the Ukraine with beautiful hills, valleys and plateaus. The largest part of the country lies between two rivers, the Dniester and the Prut. These bodies of water, combined with a mild climate year-round, have made Moldova a fertile agricultural region. However, due to drastic economic crises over the past twenty years, Moldova remains the poorest country in Europe.
God is using seeds planted years ago to spread His Word to the Moldovian people. The story begins with a girl named Olga Mocan. When she was a young girl, Olga came to Christ, but had to be very secretive about her love of the Lord due to the communist rule at the time.
Olga and many of the Christians she knew would sneak out at 2am in the morning to avoid being caught by the officials. They would meet by a frigid river in order to get baptized. Fast forward several years to Olga's life as a Christian woman in a Moldova church. A pastor there had been given a newly translated Romanian Moms In Touch International Booklet. As he read it, he felt led to give it to a woman in his church...yes, it was Olga Mocan. God had already been working in her life for many years and had placed a burden on her heart to pray for children. As she read the booklet, she knew God was calling her to gather mothers to pray for the children and schools in her country.
Olga became a coordinator and established Moms In Touch groups all over the country of Moldova. Her legacy continues as her daughter, Marianna, has assumed the role of country coordinator. Marianna recently traveled to the southern part of Moldova to spread Moms In Touch to the mothers there. Fifty women from the local church came to listen. They were blessed with sweet fellowship and so excited about Moms In Touch that another prayer group was started. Marianna also held a Christmas event for moms from Asia and was amazed at how the moms came even with their children, just to be present.
This summer Denise Wilfong, Indiana State Moms In Touch Coordinator, had the opportunity to visit Marianna and her daughter in Moldova. While there, Denise spoke to twenty women at a MITI gathering. She enjoyed spending time with the women and hearing their testimonies. Denise said she felt welcomed into the group and was able to share how God made a way for her to come to Moldova. Please pray for Olga, Marianna and others visiting Moldova as God continues to plant seeds and bear fruit in the hearts of moms and children. |
