Amidst Turmoil, Nicaragua Cries Out

By Olga Luna de Tamacas

In God's mercy, Moms In Touch International brought revival to Nicaragua, especially the churches in the Puerto Cabezas Seaport. Words cannot describe how defeated Christians are here because they are surrounded by political turmoil, demon-possessed children, drug addiction, drunkenness and extreme poverty. The Assembly of God church (Asambleas de Dios) renewed their commitment to prayer and now not only have moms praying but also men and youth. The hope is to see radical changes in this culture of violence and witchcraft as moms continue to pray faithfully.

Managua: Held at Comunidad de Renovación Familiar Hosanna and at Iglesia Verbo

The 120 women at Hosanna Church were overjoyed with God’s goodness in giving them a day to cry out in prayer on November 14, 2009. Organizers said the Holy Spirit planned and led every aspect of the event. Several women waved pink banners as if to signify God’s banner of protection over the prayer time, reminding us of Psalm 20:5, “We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.” We also were reminded of Isaiah 11:10, “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.” Please pray, along with Moms In Touch in Managua, that the homes of this city will be a place where moms gather to pray for children and youth in every neighborhood! The children here are at risk because of gangs and delinquency. Praise God that many women were interested in starting new MITI groups. This is the time for moms in Managua to unite in prayer in the power of the Holy Spirit!

At Iglesia Verbo, attending moms were very grateful for the day of prayer, recognizing the need for serious prayer. The fruit from this event of 100 women is already evident as more women have already joined their church-based MITI group and twelve women registered to start their own groups. God’s Word never returns void.

Bluefield Seaport:  Held at Revival Tabernacle

Moms In Touch International leaders in Bluefield (where the first MITI group began in Central America) affirmed, “We are convinced that our children and all other children around the world will never be the same again after this Arise! Cry Out! event. We cried out to the Lord for the generations with precious sisters in Christ who obeyed God’s calling to pray for our children and schools.” They started their event with the sound of the shofar and a parade of children holding banners with the names of God, accompanied by a group that danced for the Lord. This was followed by the Four Steps of Prayer throughout the morning. Organizers said the event was glorious and that words could not describe how intense the time of prayer was. “God truly visited us,” observed the Host-Site Facilitator. Many tears were shed as moms poured out their hearts before the Lord.

A total of 21 churches were represented among the 300 attendees, including three pastors. A few women said they were not attending any church and only 25 were in a Moms In Touch group, so many new moms were reached. Several touching moments included a song composed by the daughter of one of the MITI moms thanking all mothers who pray for children and schools. There was also a time of honoring the founder of the first MITI group in Central America, Miss Myrtle. During confession, one of the moms in attendance called her son to tell him she loved him for the very first time. Finally, one of the MITI moms shared her testimony about her son. He was robbed and shot at by some thieves that broke into his home. They missed killing him by millimeters, and the boy’s head was left with just burns. The night before this incident the son had a dream that he saw a group of moms praying for him!

Puerto Cabezas: Held at Iglesia Getsemaní de las Asambleas de Dios
Several obstacles hindered women from attending this event, such as other activities organized by different churches on the same day and political turmoil as indigenous groups tried to take over the facilities of the Regional Government. Sadly, riots also broke out in the streets. However, God showed Himself mighty by bringing 30 women to the event at the church and over 100 women to two other villages near the city. When men from the Asambleas de Dios Church learned about the worldwide day of prayer, they joined in by starting to pray on Friday the 13th at 12 a.m. Some of the men slept at the church so they could begin praying at exactly midnight! They organized their prayer time by asking a group of men to pray from midnight to 2 a.m., a group of leaders from 2 to 4 a.m., youth prayer from 4 to 6 a.m. and another group of men praying from 6 to 8 a.m. Many tears were shed during the men’s prayer time. They truly cried out for the children and schools of Puerto Cabezas. The women started their Arise! Cry Out! event at 8 a.m. and continued in an amazing day of prayer. During this time, God impressed upon their hearts the need to cry out for abandoned children. There are already plans to have another prayer meeting to specifically lift up these children that have been neglected.
