Praying Through the College Years
Decisions,
decisions, decisions. The choices our sons and
daughters face
during their young-adult years have
lifetime significance: career goals, where to live
and work, who to marry. College kids face
day-to-day choices that have long-term consequences:
to attend class or to sleep in; to study or to
party; to say "no" to drugs and promiscuity or to
give in; to stand strong in Christ or to
deny Him.
Whether they attend a Christian or a secular
school, students are surrounded by temptations.
During these crucial years more individuals turn
away from Christ than at any other time in life.
Even those who seem grounded in their faith can give
way under intense peer pressure, mockery from
atheist professors, and constant beckoning of a
godless worldview.
Our young-adult kids need prayer like never before
in their lives. That's why MITI offers groups
specifically for moms of college-age children.
One MITI mom put it this way,
"As college
moms, we can no longer help our children as we did
when they were kindergartners, but because we have
developed a pattern of praying and trusting God, we
have confidence that He will continue His work in
them."
God uses the prayers of college Moms In Touch groups
to surround our students and their campuses in a
cloak of protection. He replaces our worry and fear
with His hope and peace. |

Kay Blythe,
former MITI Southwest Regional Director, is now
serving as our College Group Facilitator,
providing direction to the College MITI groups
throughout the USA. As the mother of two college
graduates and a third about to enter, Kay has
experienced firsthand the urgency to pray for our
college students.
"Not only is it vital
that we are praying for our own children through
this chapter in their lives,
but
it is equally important that we are praying for
other students on campus. They are our future: our
doctors and lawyers, our pastors and professors, our
politicians and police, and the parents of the next
generation," says Blythe.
Since not all college
students attend school near their homes, each
College MITI group usually prays for several
colleges.
Are you in a high
school group? Don't "drop out" when your son or
daughter graduates. "Graduate" with them into a
College or Career MITI group! (Be sure to update
your group information in our
registration area.)
If you have questions
about College MITI groups, email Kay at

National Day of Prayer: Thursday, May 1
Prayer! America's Strength and Shield
is the theme for this year's
National Day of Prayer,
based on Psalm 28:7a, "The
Lord is
my strength and shield; my heart trusts in him, and
I am helped."
Discuss with your Moms In Touch group ways you
might participate in the National Day of Prayer.
Could you attend a local prayer meeting together?
Maybe your group would like to have a special prayer
time on May 1, following the Four Steps of Prayer,
but focusing your intercession on prayer for our
nation, praying that today's children will make an
impact on the future of our country. Or, consider
joining with other MITI groups from your school
district for a concentrated time of prayer.

The Global Day of Prayer is May 11. For more

Thanksgiving
"My grandmother was one of the most grateful
women I've ever met," writes Sharon Gamble, New
Hampshire State Coordinator. "Even when she was 100
years old and lying helplessly in a nursing home,
she took my hand and told me how very blessed she
was. 'I've had a wonderful life,' she whispered.
"It is easy for us to focus on our problems and
forget how much we truly have to be thankful for.
This is why the time of thanksgiving in our MITI
groups each week is vital. Even when some of our
deepest needs seem to go unanswered, we are
encouraged as we take time to celebrate the many
times God has said 'yes.' This, in turn, helps us
wait with confidence, as we present other requests
to Him. Enjoy thanking God together and sit in awe
as you realize all He does for you and your
children."
As you reflect on God's goodness and on
answered prayer in your MITI group, will you
consider a
thanksgiving gift
to Moms In Touch International?
Your gifts help cover more schools in
prayer as moms like you find MITI
groups, and discover the hope, peace and assurance
that God hears their cries for their children.

Words and
Deeds ideas
Are you
looking for fresh ideas to say
"thank you" on Teacher Appreciation
Day, May 6? We have ideas galore-in
the MITI Booklet, in the Leader's
Guide and in two separate
resources,
Words and Deeds Volume One
and
Words
and Deeds Volume Two.
You'll find tried-and-true
recommendations.
Some groups present the teachers
with a simple muffin basket and a
note of appreciation, while others
create a large spread of goodies in
the staff lounge. Before making any
big plans, check first with the
school to see if another group might
be acknowledging the staff that day.
"And whatever you do, whether in
word or deed, do it all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to
God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
Remember:
Sharing appreciation for your school
through notes or goodies from your
MITI group is OPTIONAL. |
